Tips For Your Child’s Skincare

by | Jul 21, 2017 | Wellness

The skin is like your heart, an organ that needs to be taken care of just like the rest of your body. It is what protects your insides and keeps infections out. Follow these simple tips to keep your child’s skin smooth and safe.

  1. Clean it right

The amount of bathing kids need depends not only on the weather, but on their age and activity levels too. Bathing daily is needed if children play outside, wear sunscreen or are in public areas. Experts suggest a 15-minute bath with a mild cleanser that has a pH of 7 or less, and they discourage the use of bubble baths with dyes or perfumes. Washing hands is just as important because it prevents germs from spreading to the rest of the body. Teach your kids to use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to thoroughly wash their palms, finger nails and everything in between.

  1. Use the right products

Parents struggle with purchasing products they think are safe for their children. It is best to consult your pediatrician about which products to use, especially if your child has sensitive skin. A rule of thumb to follow is choosing products that are free of perfumes and dyes. This includes laundry detergent, fabric softener, soaps and lotions.

  1. Nutrition is important

It’s no secret that good health is important, but having a balanced diet and drinking sufficient water also helps keep your child’s skin at its best. Water helps keep the skin hydrated and moisturized.

  1. Speak to an expert

The best person to consult about your child’s skin care is a pediatrician or dermatologist. Having an open dialogue will help your child’s doctor better recommend and address any issues you might have in regards to skincare and products to use. Dermatologists are experts on all things skin, nail and hair related, making them the perfect go to person.
