Ensuring Everyone Enjoys Thanksgiving Dinner

by | Nov 22, 2017 | Nutrition

Family, friends and food are just some of the things that make the holidays enjoyable and memorable. It is a time to spend with loved ones, and with Thanksgiving upon us, it’s important to be mindful of every dinner guest and any food preferences they might have.

If you’re preparing food for Thanksgiving dinner, try to keep in mind the different diets people might have. We want to help with a few tips to ensure every guest, including you, gets the most out of this Thanksgiving.

Reach out and ask

If you’re preparing food, the best way to ensure everyone’s diet needs are met is to simply reach out and ask. People will appreciate you taking the time and consideration to ask if they have any specific diets, needs or preferences. By asking for preferences, you are able to prepare food in advance that you know will suit everyone’s palate.

Don’t be afraid to tell others about your diet needs

If you’re attending dinner at a relative or friend’s house, don’t be afraid to reach out and let them know of any of your, or your family’s, diet needs. This will help prevent any uncomfortable food situations. Or you can take a dish you know you’ll be able to enjoy.

Have variety

Try making Thanksgiving dinner into a potluck – that way there are a variety of dishes at the dinner table. It’s easier if you are able to coordinate in advance so you are able to have a full menu with something for every guest. You can also ask each guest what their food preferences are so you can prepare something for everyone!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

It goes without saying that planning and preparing a Thanksgiving meal takes time and a whole lot of assistance, therefore, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Whether it’s delegating dishes or helping plan the full menu, making dinner is for more than just one person, and planning in advance is key. With a little help, you will be able plan a meal that every guest will be able to enjoy!

Don’t forget dessert

These days, there are a variety of desserts for every different type of palate and preference. You can find recipes – or simply purchase desserts – for all types of diets, such as flowerless chocolate cake for those who have a gluten intolerance. You can also keep it simple by making a fruit salad or you can make two to three different desserts that you think will please your guests.
